The Huntsmen's Chorus, a.k.a. the Vienna Philharmonia Chorus under Walter Zeh, enter the stage dressed in white with red shoes and sing their well-known folkish piece to a provocative, simple, rather puppet-like dance routine. This looks so compellingly funny, and sounds so enchanting accompanied by the fabulously resonant horns, that the Festival Theatre experiences something that is a rare occurrence in German operas: the audience applaud so long that they are rewarded with a Huntmen's Chorus encore right in the middle of the piece.
