(...) What better idea could Schwab find than the wreck of an airplane still smoking that apparently just had crashed, one of British Caledonian Airways, not existing anymore, merged with British Airway in 1988. The choir of the Salzburger Landestheater prepared by Ines Kaun and the Philharmonia Chorus Vienna, coached by Walter Zeh become the protagonists of the opera. They are moved in an irresistible way by the choreography, thus emphasizing that Lohengrin has no chance of being successful to bring order to the situation. In this performance the choirs gave the audience a special experience with their sound, they were placed in the three arcades of the Felsenreitschule, a practice that is often missed in performances of the Salzburg Festival. The costumes by Gabriele Rupprecht fit, though it sometimes is a little strange when Elsa in her ball dress and the ladies of the choir in glittering dresses walk across the wrecked airplane.... the lighting was designed in the best possible way for this unusual setting by Richard Schlager. Der Standard, Heidemarie Klabacher

Pavel Kudinov as Heinrich der Vogler is just as convincing as Raimundas Juzuitis as Heerrufer of the King and as the choir!

Die Presse, Walter Gürtelschmied

Very enjoyable is the musical side which emphasizes that this is the choir’s opera, when the Philharmonia Chorus Vienna is supporting  the choir of the house.

Salzburger Nachrichten, Florian Oberhummer

Another part of this production’s the musical success is the sound of the choirs. “Lohengrin” has demanding challenges for the choir, for example the third scene of act three is full of contrapuntal choir parts. The choir of the Landestheater found  crucial reinforcement by the Philharmonia Chorus Vienna but with the powerful sound still transparent.

Opernwelt, Karl Harb

The choir of the theatre joined with the Philharmonia Chorus Vienna (Ines Kaun, Walter Zeh) are impressively singing the most tricky parts for double chorus with strength and magnificence, subtlety  and richness of sound. This really has the level of the festival.
